SEO, content, search engine
Quality content in short is link-worthy content which is original, conceptually unique and serves as a useful resource for information. And, it refers to the text part of your website. Though keywords matter in your page copy, your page should not look like a keyword stuffed page for search engine robots; you should write for your site visitors focusing on readability and usefulness.
Good quality content has other rewards, too. If people find your content useful and spreading information, they will naturally want to link to your site, and give referrals. Thus, useful pages meant for people can attract links which are very valuable for your ranking in the search engines.
If your pages are copies of pages on other sites, search engines like Google will perceive your site to be of poor quality offering no value. You should therefore create content which people will find useful in your niche. It is better to have few pages with quality content than having thousands of pages filled with garbage. Good content will attract referrals and citations to your site and boost your ranking naturally.

Unfortunately, only 7% of all websites are visible by the search engines according to a recent StatMarket.com study. The reason for this phenomenon is because most web sites are not properly optimized and promoted to achieve high search engine rankings.
There are 3 top Components Of Optimizing Your Web Site for Top Search Engine Rankings. To achieve the best overall, long-term search engine positioning, three components must be present on your web site.

Sourav Ganguly Scores DOUBLE TON
While his inning at Kolkata was a watchful one, and wasn't as fluent as was todays, Ganguly today looked in supreme command right from ball no.1. There were absolutely no stutters at any point. Today's inning no doubt was ultra special for two reasons; One, because it was his 2nd consecutive ton, and two, most importantly because it came at a juncture when things looked pretty gloomy for India. This man is known for looking adversity in the eye whenever he's faced by it. Whenever he looks like being excluded from the team he comes back with something stupefying. He's proven that he's here to stay for as long as he desires. There's a lot of spunk still left in the man.
He was ably supported by the electrifying Yuvraj and then there was no looking back. Whatever little chances Pakistan had of dominating the match were bulldozed by these two juggernauts. There seems to a double century waiting in the wings for Dada. All Dada has to do is play with the same application and poise as he did today. Way to go Dada!
The series is virtually India's now as it seems unlikely that Pakistan can go on to win the match no matter how well they play, ofcourse unless India blunders big time. Kudos to the two Princes and the Indian Cricket team.

SEO Tips - Link Building for New Domains
To escape the Google Sandbox requires the acquisition of quality one way links from trusted sources and a careful approach to website SEO and in particular reciprocal linking. Unnatural link building trends and the usage of similar link anchor text can lead to a lower level of Google trust being applied to your site resulting in an extension of the Sandbox period.
Whilst in the Sandbox, Google assesses your web site's link acquisition trends, checks for unnatural SEO activities, gauges website content quality and assigns trust. Google likes to see one way links being acquired by new websites as these are a positive indicator of content quality and originality.

WHAT IS SSI?
WHAT IS SSI?
You may have noticed as you browse this site, that our pages end with the shtml extension instead of the more familiar html or htm. This is because we use Server Side Includes (SSI). Used properly, the SSI can help make your pages more responsive and can even help make maintaining your site an easier task.
Put simply, SSI is sort of like using your HTML server as a cut and paste editor. Here is basically what happens when your server handles a request for an SSI document.
The server reads the document and parses (techie word for chops up and looks for special instructions) it for directives. (another techie word for directions!)
Follows the instructions that it finds and merges their results into creating a finished document.
The document is then sent to the client browser.
SSI also seems to be one of the better kept secrets around. In any web related book, they seem to get about 1 page for every 200 pages on CGI and FORMS. Well, I've never been one to leave you in the dark when it comes to being a better webmaster

Is Your Websitean Asset Or a Liability?
Can visiting users tell immediately who you are and what you offer?
Is your site organized in a clear fashion that promotes navigation?
Is your home page an information destination or just a messy landing page?
Does your home page give a good first impression that entices users to clickthrough your links?
Performance Issues
Do your images, videos, and pages load quickly?
Does your site utilize clean, un-bloated code?
Does your site have a "search" function? If so, is it fast and useful?
Have you performed quality assurance testing to ensure your site looks the same across different browsers?
Content Is King
Is your content written clearly and persuasively? Does it speak to your target market?
Have you included useful and relevant resources like case studies, white papers, articles, or links?
Does your content effectively describe your products, services, and benefits?
Is your content keyword focused to cater to users and search engines alike?
First and foremost: Do all your links work?
Are your links clearly marked?
Do your links utilize descriptive and enticing anchor text?
Is your navigation menu or framework consistent throughout your site?
Does your navigation menu provide access to your entire site?
Critical Pages
Is there a top-level page that describes your products and services?
Do you have an "About Us" page to describe your company?
Is the "Contact Us" page clear, informative, and thorough?
Do you have a page where users can ask questíons or answer their own?
Do you have a Testimonials section?
Do you have a blog that you update frequently?
Do you have social bookmarking buttons to take advantage of Web 2.0 technologies?
Is your site organized so that information is easy to find?
Do you have a site map that wireframes this organizational structure and links to all your pages?
Is your site "user-friendly?"
Is your type scannable, easy to read, and written for the web?
Do you utilize bullets, headlines, and other stylistic elements to organize and present content?
Do you have calls to action that prompt users to take desired actions?
Are you using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to control the layout of the site?
Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
Is your site search engine friendly?
Have you optimized your site for specific and relevant keywords?
Have you acquired a network of high-quality, relevant links?
Have you utilized online PR or social media marketing for its SEO benefits?
Does your navigation menu provide access to your entire site?
Now that you've answered all of these questíons, you need to decide what to do next। Start with some competitve analysis to see what your competitors are doing and what you need to do to catch up। Then, survey users to see what they think and act upon that feedback; don't wait, evaluate and reciprocate.

Inter-Language Unification(ILU)
From 1997 to 2000, ILU was used as the foundation for experimental work on a "next generation" HTTP protocol by the World Wide Web Consortium's HTTP-NG activity. As a result of this work, a particularly efficient experimental RPC protocol called "w3ng" was developed, along with a way of efficiently multiplexing a single TCP connection into multiple channels in both directions, called "w3mux". The results of the HTTP-NG experiment were presented at the 2000 World Wide Web Conference.

PayPal to offer Virtual Credit Card for non-PayPal Payments
PayPal will provide a browser plugin along with PayPal Secure Card, which will recognize an e-commerce checkout page and automatically fill-up all your credentials to make the payment faster and easier. Windows users using Internet Explorer or Firefox will be able to take full advantage of the service, whereas Mac users running Safari will only have partial access, according to Reuters.
For merchants, the transaction will appear as an ordinary credit card transaction, but for users the funds will be deducted from their PayPal balance. It is not clear whether PayPal plans on charging any fee for this service.
This move seems to be a response to Google’s Checkout, which stores user’s financial information for making online payments more secure. PayPal Secure Card will be available to all US users of PayPal on Tuesday (tomorrow), and soon they’ll open it up for international users. Last year, PayPal did a beta test of Secure Card in which over 3 million PayPal users participated.
This service will be very beneficial for users who don’t have a credit card and totally rely on PayPal for online payments. For those who already have credit card, this service removes the hassle of giving your actually credit card details online.

Withdraw PayPal Funds to your Indian Bank Account
PayPal has added a convenient new way to withdraw funds for its Indian Members. If you have a bank account in Indian, you withdraw your PayPal funds directly to your bank account. And the best part is you don’t need to pay any fee, if you are withdrawing funds over Rs. 7000. For withdrawing funds below Rs. 6999, they’ll charge you a fee of Rs. 50.
Withdraw PayPal Funds to your Indian Bank Account (Withdraw funds using an Indian bank)
Those having bank accounts in State Bank of India, Bank of India, Canara Bank, Union Bank of India, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, ING VYSYA Bank, Axis Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, HSBC Bank and Citibank can opt for this feature to withdraw funds.
Before transferring funds, please keep in mind that your name on Bank records and PayPal account should match character-by-character. You’ll also need to call your bank and ask for your uniquely identified IFSCI (Indian Financial System Code).
Prior to this, the only option to withdraw funds by Indian PayPal members was by requesting a cheque. This process was slow, and took about 30 – 40 days to arrive via snail mail. Thanks PayPal!

Trust in Your Website or Blog
If your website does not create a sense of trust in your visitors, all your efforts will be in vain. Your online business will not succeed. That's the bad news. The good news is that it is very easy to create and build trust in your online visitors. Below, I have listed all the techniques used by the hundreds of websites I have helped launch. If you have additional techniques, please add them to the líst.
As the old saying goes, you have only one chance to make a first impression. Building trust cannot be achieved by one single action. Trust is achieved by hundreds of little things you do throughout your website that, when taken together, give readers a sense of honesty, legitimacy and stability.
Here are 47 simple actions you can take to get started.
1. Trust is built by lots of small actions on every page of your website.
2. Your website design is the first impression. Make sure it is professional and relevant to the subject matter.
3. Navigation must be intuitive. If visitors can't find what they are looking for easily, they will question your competence in providing what they want.
4. Make the website personal by giving it its own tone and voice. People buy people.
5. Follow the HEART rule of creating online content. (Reminder: HEART stands for Honest, Exclusive, Accurate, Relevant and Timely.)
6. Use language that is appropriate to the audience. It will build empathy.
7. Regularly add new content to your site. It shows that the business is alive and kicking.
8. Review all links. Doubts will quickly form in your visitors' minds if links don't work or, worse still, take them to error pages.
9. Good grammar and spelling matter. Errors give the impression of sloppiness and carelessness.
10. Don't make outrageous and unbelievable claims, like "Read this blog and you'll be a millionaire by the end of the week." People are used to scams, get-rich-quick schemes and rip-offs.
11. Publish REAL testimonials and third-party endorsements. Try to always use real names and link to websites where possible. Some sites show images of letters sent by happy customers.
12. Publish case studies about customers you have helped, who use your product, etc.
13. Don't put down, curse or insult competitors. It's unprofessional. It is better to offer an objective comparison of competitive services or products.
14. Focus on building your long-term reputation, not on making quick sales.
15. Write articles for humans, not search engines.
16. Make your 'About Us' page personal and comprehensive. It plays an important part in making visitors feel comfortable that real people are behind the site.
17. Publish your photo or the photos of the key people involved with the site. Again, this reinforces the fact that there are real people behind the screenshots.
18. Clearly identify who is behind the site. Nothing creates more suspicion than a site that tries to hide the identity of its publishers.
19. On the 'Contact Us' page, provide an email form, telephone number, fax and address of the company. In Europe, it is a legal requirement for sites taking funds, but even sites driven by advertising will benefit from openness.
20. Provide a telephone number that people can call and talk to a person.
21. Provide Web addresses linked to the website domain, not addresses from free webmail services such as Hotmail and Gmail.
23. Think carefully about reciprocal links. If your site is about organic food and you have links to Party Poker, people are going to question your integrity.
24. Think carefully about the adverts you display on your site. Ensure that they are relevant to your subject and audience.
26. Write and publish your privacy policy. Be clear about what you will and will not do with any personal data you collect. State that you adhere to all data protection laws. Make it easy to read and don't use legal gobbledygook.
27. Write and publish a security policy. State what measures you take to ensure that all transactions are secure.
28. Ensure that you have a security and privacy policy which is linked from the footer on every page. Make the link more prominent on all the order pages.
29. Clearly publish your guarantëe. I would recommend making it a 100% money-back guarantëe if possible.
30. Clearly state your refund and returns policy.
31. Piggyback off reputable brands. If you use PayPal, put the PayPal logo on your site. If you have a merchant services account with a major bank like Citibank or HSBC, put its logo on your site.
32. Use Google search on your site for two reasons. First, it is a great search solution which will help your visitors find what they are looking for. Second, having the Google name on your site instills trust.
33. If there are well-known industry associations for your subject, join up and put their logos on your site.
34. Have a forum on your site and respond quickly to questíons. Have the attitude that you are happy to help others without receiving immediate reward. As the old saying goes, 'Givers always gain.'
35. Allow people to comment on articles. Interactivity and an exchange of views build community and a sense of involvement.
36. If people provide constructive criticism or comments in the forum, don't delete them, but respond with your point of view.
37. Put photos on the website of the owners, publishers and/or team. Let visitors know there are real people behind the business.
38. Put images of the credít cards you accept on every page of the order process.
39. Use the words 'secure website' whenever you try to get any information from visitors, including newsletter sign-ups, forum input and payment.
40. On every page, state, "We take your privacy and security very seriously." Link the statement to the security and privacy policy.
41. Remember, reputations take years to build and seconds to destroy.
42. If you are selling a subscription, offer a low-cost, entry-level option. This could be a one-day taster, 'a week before billing starts' or a monthly tríal.
43. Use a high level of security when processing credít cards. Make sure you make your clients aware of all the steps you are taking.
44. Don't send credít card information or personal details over the Internet unencrypted. Tell your customers that their data will be encrypted.
45. Only ask for information from customers that you really need. For example, for an email newsletter sign-up, the only information you REALLY need is an email address, so that is all you should ask for.
46. If you have pricing on your website, make it transparent. I recently went to buy a book which was advertised for $10. When I checked out, they added tax, post and packaging, and the final bill was $19.50. I didn't buy it as I felt they had deliberately tried to mislead me.
47. Keep your SSL certificate up to date. Let people know you are using SSL encryption and who the provider is.
You can't do too much to build trust. Most of it comes down to common sense and good business practice. To ensure that you are continually improving your trustworthiness, every time you go to a website, ask yourself whether you trust it or not. Then ask yourself why you have formed the opinion you have. Continually try to learn what makes a site trustworthy or untrustworthy and implement the relevant changes to your site.

Creating a chat script with PHP and Ajax,
Introduction
Another JavaScript library we'll be using is the Prototype library, which includes many useful JavaScript functions and comes with inbuilt Ajax support. If you want to know more about this library, have a look at the following tutorial: "Using prototype.js v1.3.1".
In this first part of the series I will show you how to create a really basic chat script, and nothing more. In the next parts we'll be adding more features, eventually creating a really robust and powerful chat script.
The client is used by your visitors, and doesn't contain any PHP at all. The client must do all the data sending. Every time the user wants to send a new message, the client must send this data (using Ajax) to the server. The client must also check for new messages on the server, again using an Ajax request.

Curl-PHP
PHP supports libcurl, a library created by Daniel Stenberg, that allows you to connect and communicate to many different types of servers with many different types of protocols. libcurl currently supports the http, https, ftp, gopher, telnet, dict, file, and ldap protocols. libcurl also supports HTTPS certificates, HTTP POST, HTTP PUT, FTP uploading (this can also be done with PHP's ftp extension), HTTP form based upload, proxies, cookies, and user+password authentication.
These functions have been added in PHP 4.0.2.
Requirements
In order to use PHP's cURL functions you need to install the » libcurl package. PHP requires that you use libcurl 7.0.2-beta or higher. In PHP 4.2.3, you will need libcurl version 7.9.0 or higher. From PHP 4.3.0, you will need a libcurl version that's 7.9.8 or higher. PHP 5.0.0 requires a libcurl version 7.10.5 or greater.
Installation
To use PHP's cURL support you must also compile PHP --with-curl[=DIR] where DIR is the location of the directory containing the lib and include directories. In the "include" directory there should be a folder named "curl" which should contain the easy.h and curl.h files. There should be a file named libcurl.a located in the "lib" directory. Beginning with PHP 4.3.0 you can configure PHP to use cURL for URL streams --with-curlwrappers.
Note to Win32 Users: In order to enable this module on a Windows environment, libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll must be present in your PATH.
You don't need libcurl.dll from the cURL site.
Once you've compiled PHP with cURL support, you can begin using the cURL functions. The basic idea behind the cURL functions is that you initialize a cURL session using the curl_init(), then you can set all your options for the transfer via the curl_setopt(), then you can execute the session with the curl_exec() and then you finish off your session using the curl_close(). Here is an example that uses the cURL functions to fetch the example.com homepage into a file:

Ajax
What is Ajax?
Ajax is a way of developing Web applications that combines:
XHTML and CSS standards based presentation
Interaction with the page through the DOM
Data interchange with XML and XSLT
Asynchronous data retrieval with XMLHttpRequest
JavaScript to tie it all together
In the traditional Web application, the interaction between the customer and the server goes like this:
Customer accesses Web application
Server processes request and sends data to the browser while the customer waits
Customer clicks on a link or interacts with the application
Server processes request and sends data back to the browser while the customer waits
etc....

Micro-blogging (Micro-blog)
The microblogging concept isn't one that settles neatly among a myriad of more intuitive platforms. Regardless, microblogging platforms like Twitter, Jaiku, Pownce, and PlaceShout are gaining steam in the social media realm with or without you.
If you know and/or follow Lynnette Young, a.k.a. LynetteRadio on Twitter, you would be interested in knowing that she's on the brink of labor, very near to producing a Halloween baby. You'd also be aware that her husband is in New York sans cell phone.
What use is that to the business-minded? At this point, not much. Later, though, as media converges – especially social media – one might imagine contextual advertising for diapers and baby wipes appearing next to the appropriate tweets. (The 140 character or less posts are called "tweets" on Twitter.)
Perhaps that's what Google plans to do with recently acquired Jaiku, a platform similar to Twitter. Perhaps that's where all this is headed as the bubble gets bigger: large companies swallow up social media, interlink them, and monetize them under one umbrella, carefully targeted by demographic.
Until then, we're left with fragmentation teetering on frustration. With so much social media out there, how does one have time to utilize it properly? Well, just like you pick your battles, you're going to have to pick your social network.
Twitter, for example, is stuffed with early adopters, thought leaders, and technophiles. If this your target market, then it's a good idea to be there Twittering too. Verizon's John Czwartacki takes his company's message to the lion's den. In a crowd most likely to be pro-Net Neutrality, Czwartacki hasn't missed the opportunity to present the positive aspects of his company to industry critics/bloggers.
"Microblogging can serve a valuable purpose in an emergency, especially when it can be done via a mobile device. In the recent San Diego Fire, twitter was a great way to communicate with friends and family when the mayor asked us all not to talk on our cell phones. Our local PBS news affiliate created their own twitter account which was great when the power went out.
It was very easy for me to give out my twitter screen name and have my family follow my posts instead of calling me every few hours."

Dravid dropped
Dravid dropped, not rested- I was a party to the decision, says chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar
The last time he’d been treated similarly was way back in September 1998, during the Sahara Cup face-off against Pakistan in Toronto.
“Yes, I was a party to today’s decision,” confirmed chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar in a chat with The Telegraph, dismissing talk that the move had been authored exclusively by captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and vice-captain Yuvraj Singh. Significantly, just over a week ago, after the win in Chandigarh, Dhoni had declared there were “no replacements” for the seniors. That they added much value to the team.
The decision to drop Dravid was taken during Wednesday morning’s team meeting and, so, he would have got the bad news in the presence of juniors. The night before, the former captain had been wondering where he would be asked to bat.
Indeed, while Dravid scored only 51 in five matches (he didn’t bat in the series-opener, in Bangalore), he got pushed up and down the batting order: No.5, No.4, No.5, No.3 and No.4.
Hardly confidence-enhancing for somebody struggling to regain the form shown as recently as the seven ODIs in England.
Some may cynically say “one down, two (Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly) to go,” but Dravid remains our most accomplished bat. Technique-wise, certainly. Moreover, in England, his strike-rate was 97-plus. Both Sachin and Dravid are 34, while Sourav is a year older. On the face of it, then, Dravid’s omission has to be seen as a message for the Big Two. By the way, coming off an injury, Sourav had been rested in Hyderabad.
However, there’s no guarantee that the younger replacements will succeed. At the Wankhede, for example, Dinesh Karthik (who took Dravid’s place) failed to get off the mark.
“I’m amazed how Dravid’s form became such an issue… Had he been an Australian, there wouldn’t have been any discussion and the think-tank would have backed him,” remarked the iconic Barry Richards. The Australian environment, though, is quite different.

Methods Of Adding More Content To Your Site (Part 2)
News items related to your industry or even your business can be a good excuse to regularly add content. As a general rule they will contain what will turn out to be reasonable long tail search results and you can optimize the pages. Good news or press releases may be picked up by other industry news sites providing you with more exposure as well as genuinely useful content for your site.
Let's not overlook that it's always good to brag. Modesty will not win you customers, so if your business or website achieves something big then brag about it. Inform your customers how they too can benefit and the advantages that your news gives to them.
Forums
Some believe that the forum is becoming outdated by more modern web 2.0 applications and portals. While this may be true, the forum can still be used to your advantage although only in the appropriate circumstances. Forums provide a means for people to communicate with one another, and if you can create a vibrant and lively forum, you will instantly attract regular visitors.
The forum can also be used to direct your website visitors. If there's a particularly hot topic, then link to it from one of your pages. If somebody (even you) posts a particularly beneficial post, then link to it from one or more of your pages. Conversely, you can also point forum readers to the main pages of your site. It is possible, with certain forum applications, to replace all instances of a word with a link to one of your pages – a quick way to flow traffíc into your main site.
Blogs
Who hasn't heard of blogs, right? They caused a huge debate when first introduced. Early bloggers claimed they would be the future of the Internet while more skeptical marketers and Webmasters decided their popularity would dwindle eventually. The former certainly came true and it seems there are blogs everywhere, within every industry, and on every conceivable topic.
Blogs have been turned into books, books into blogs. Blogs have even been turned into TV series and, again, vice versa. If you're not blogging then you're not communicating because a blog really does provide a superb way of communicating with your visitors and your customers. And, you guessed it, it allows you to add a lot of good content to your site and will usually draw good search engine traffíc for your efforts.
Frequently Asked Questíons
An old favorite of the Internet marketer. The FAQ page serves a number of purposes, but primarily it is used to prevent an excessive number of telephone calls and emails with simple questíons. An FAQ page can also be used to highlight some of the main benefits of your service or product. For example, if you sell trainers, and deliver them the next day, one of your questíons could be:
"Q - How long before my Nike trainers are delivered?"
"A - We provide next day delivery on all orders placed before 2pm"
That's a very simplistic view, but it can help to sell your product. Also ensure that you include some of your more important keywords through the questíons and answers.
Knowledgebase
A knowledgebase is essentially the next step up from an FAQ page. Instead of having a single page with all of your questíons and answers you would create an article or short article that concentrates on one question or one tutorial. Once you have built up a good number of these you have an excellent point of resource, a good way to attract visitors, and a method of keeping unnecessary customer communications to a minimum.
Feeds
RSS and XML feeds are not new, but they are good for adding content to your site. Look for other sites within your industry that provide feeds and embed them into a page or several of the pages of your site. This can help with SEO because the better feeds update regularly and the search engine spiders believe your site content updates regularly.
These are just some of the more basic but effective methods of adding more and more content to your website. Anything that enables you to add more words has the ability to help improve traffíc and conversions, and provide your customers with an invaluable resource that they will hopefully return to time and time again.
If you don't already have a blog, then get one. At least one. You can combine a blog with other methods of adding content. For instance, you can add other people's articles, or your own articles to the pages of your blog. Alternatively, you can use a blog as the news section of your website. They are easy to design and typically very easy to establish and integrate into your website.

Methods Of Adding More Content To Your Site (Part1)
OK, we'll deal with the most obvious method first. Add more pages. It's simple and it might be considered old school to many, but it still has a place. The more pages of content you have, the more information you can provide and the more keywords you can target. The math is simple and the technique is devastatingly simple.
Try to add new pages for new topics and, if a particular topic looks like being too verbose, split the page down into several parts. Hostíng plans usually allow for a lot of disk space so you should have no problems with space limitations in this respect. Content Management Systems are often included as part of a hostíng control panel, again making it much easier to add more pages to your website.
Add An Article Directory
This is a similar approach to adding more pages in many respects except that it allows for a slightly different structure. An article directory is an excellent way to provide visitors more information on the topic of your site. Articles can be categorized, and include deep links to the appropriate pages of your site.
Articles are very marketable, in the sense that if they are well written, other websites may be inclined to link to the article or even republish it in full with all links to your site left in place. If you simply want to add more content, and use the resulting pages as online real estate, then you could consider accepting article submissions from other authors and Webmasters. You receive free content while the authors receive exposure.

'.Asia' launched as Internet domain .ASIA
Bidding began Tuesday (10 th Oct 2007) for prime new pieces of Internet real estate with the launch of the ".asia" domain name, which aims to become one of the web's most desirable addresses.
The regional domain comes after the launch of the European-based .eu name last year and aims to join .com and .net as a widely used website suffix.
"The .asia domain acts like a channel or a portal, showing your commitment to the Asia market as a whole," said Edmon Chung from DotAsia, a Hong Kong-based group that won the right to set-up the domain.
"It provides an easier way to direct customers to your products.
"Our research has found that 'Asia' is one of the most searched-for terms and by having a .asia website, your ranking on Google or Yahoo will become much higher."
Prices for website addresses can range from as little as 10 dollars to several hundred dollars, depending on their desirability, Chung said.
Businesses with trademarks, governments and official bodies will be allowed to register website addresses ending with the suffix during the initial offer period. The general public will be allowed to bid from February.
Firms and global brands from both inside and outside Asia were likely to be interested, and the suffix would act as a complement to country-specific domains such as .cn for China and .jp for Japan, Chung said.
He expected tourism bodies to be some of the first groups bidding for domain names, especially those with specifically Asian slogans, such as Hong Kong's "Asia's World City" and "Malaysia. Truly Asia."
The initial bidding period will be used to try and prevent disputes between organisations and individuals vying for a specific domain name, Chung said.
If several claims are deemed equally valid, they will eventually be settled by an auction run by the not-for-profit group.
Top-level domains, which include .Asia, country-specific suffixes and around 20 generic names, such as .biz or .org, are regulated by the US-based Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, with specific addresses sold through registrars.

The .asia regional internet domain has officially opened for business, with big firms expected to grab addresses.
Governments and companies can now register interest in specific domain names, such as www.namehere.asia.
Companies will be able to register domains for which they own a trademark and governments will get a chance to earmark those on a reserved list.
The general public will get a chance to snap up their own .asia domain when the landrush starts in February 2008.
Wide reach
Work to create the .asia domain began in 2000. The DotAsia Organisation won official approval to set up the domain in mid-October 2006 and the first .asia domains should go live on the internet in March 2008.
Unlike other administrators of net domains, the DotAsia Registry plans to use an auction to determine who gets domains wanted by more than one organisation. The highest bidder will win the right to the contested name.
The geographical reach of the .asia domain extends from Australia to the Middle East. In all, 20 organisations that run country code domains have signed up to back the .asia registry.
The .asia domain is the second regional domain to go live following the European .eu suffix which started selling in April 2006. Other regional domains for Africa and Latin America are expected to follow.
Lesley Cowley, chief executive of .uk registry Nominet, said regional domains could prove to be a good option because many nations imposed stringent conditions on anyone wanting to register and use country code addresses.
Ms Cowley expected many of the initial requests for .asia domains to come from companies that need to defend the trademarks they own in the region.
"There is going to be an ever-increasing number of suffixes," she said. "Companies need to decide whether they are going to protect their registered marks in each and every one."
Despite the diversity of languages spoken in Asia, all the domains offered initially will be written using the Latin alphabet which is already used in established generic domains such as .com and country codes such as .uk.
Eventually though domains will be offered in character sets used in Asian nations but the DotAsia Organisation has given no hint about when this will begin.
At the same time that the sunrise period for .asia begins, net address overseer Icann (The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) is starting trials of a system that will let net addresses be written in local alphabets.
Icann will trial addresses written in Arabic, Persian, simplified Chinese, traditional Chinese, Russian, Hindi, Greek, Korean, Hebrew, Japanese and Tamil.
