How Important is Alexa Ranking?

Alexa Ranking - A Web Site Monetization Strategy?
All businesses that employ online marketing, strive to improve their conversion rate. Now, there are different ways of attracting targeted traffíc. Some try to achieve a good ranking in the SERPs, while others are satisfied with heavier traffic. Either way, everybody has the goal of achieving financial success.
But, while scoring high with Google may seem to certain business people the only way to make themselves known and thus reach their goal, there are others that think that a good position in the Alexa ranking system might benefit them just as well.
What is Alexa Ranking?
This is a ranking system set by alexa.com (a subsidiary of amazon.com ) that basically audits and makes public the frequency of visits to various Web sites. The algorithm by which Alexa traffíc ranking is calculated, is simple. It is based on the amount of traffic recorded over a period of three months from users that have the Alexa toolbar installed.
This traffíc is based on such parameters as reach and page views. The reach refers to the number of Alexa users who visit a particular site in one day. Page view, as the name indicates, is the number of times a particular page (URL) is viewed by Alexa users. Alexa.com makes it clear though that, if a particular user visits the same URL multiple times on the same day, all those visits will be counted as one.
The first step of the ranking process is calculating the reach and number of page views for all the sites on the Web on a daily basis. Alexa ranking is obtained by performing the geometric mean of reach and page views, averaged over a predefined period of time (three months).
How Alexa Ranking Works
It's quite easy to get started. All you have to do is visit the alexa.com site and download (and install) the Alexa toolbar. This toolbar offers a search function, but it mainly displays the rank (at a global level) of the visited site, as well as the sites that have been visited by Web surfers that are linked in some way to the site being visited.
With Alexa, the smaller the numerical ranking, the better. Most people say that if you manage to make it in the top 100,000, it is a sign that your site enjoys quite heavy traffíc.
Is Alexa Ranking Worth Anything?
Benefits
Alexa Traffic can be used as a competitive intelligence tool, but you should take into consideration the fact that the audience sample size is fairly small. Just enter your competitor's site in the "Compare Sites" section and measure the results of your web marketing efforts in comparison with your competitors'.
As opposed to Google's PageRank, the lower your ranking number, the better.
It helps Webmasters and advertisers see the real marketing potential of your Web site. The better your Alexa rank, the higher they may be willing to bid to buy advertising space on your Web site.
Personal pages or blogs are also ranked in the same way as ordinary Web sites. They will even get a distinctive mark (*)
Because Alexa ranking helps you with information about your Web site, it is a good instrument for search engine optimization.
The Alexa toolbar not only displays information, but it also sends data to the central server. Thus, each time you visit a Web page via a Web browser (be it Internet Explorer or Firefox) that has the toolbar installed, information is sent to the server indicating your IP and the page you are visiting. Such data is gathered from all the Web users who have the Alexa toolbar.

SEO - Dynamic Web Sites and Google

Http://Yaaryaar.blogspot.com Http://MusicDon.blogspot.com

'Dynamic generated web sites often cause problems with search engines. If your web pages are dynamically created from the database, it's likely that many search engines have difficulty to crawl and index them.Disadvantage of dynamically created pagesMany search engines like Google for example don't like dynamically created pages because the crawlers might get in an infinite loop on your server if they follow dynamically created web pages with a query string in it. The spider can be trapped in the web server - and therefore the spiders and bots are very careful not to enter the web site too deep. Dynamic generated URL's with a large number of parameters "?&id=" can therefore cause problems for search engine bots. This is why we normally recommend to use a seo rewriting program to change dynamic URL's into Google-friendly URL's. This is always a good step to start with, when you hire a SEO company.If you can, keep the number of URL parameters to one or two it may help so that search engines can crawl your dynamic web pages.SEO WATCH only provides professional search engine marketing services and will do every effort to achieve the ranking for your web site!

Web Site Marketing, SEO Marketing, Improving Google Ranking

Http://Yaaryaar.blogspot.com Http://MusicDon.blogspot.com

How SEO WATCH conducts online marketing for web sites:SEO WATCH first analyzes the current traffic of a web site and develops a strategy how this can be improved if traffic is lacking or the wrong target group is reached. Search engine optimization is not just to rank in search engines but mainly to achieve a good click through rate from the targeted visitors. This means that your web site should come up in the search results of the search-engines with targeted keywords that are related to your content or theme of your site. SEO Traffic AnalysisSEO WATCH applies different kind of marketing strategies to create more quality traffic to a web site, depending on the requirements the strategy is chosen, which fits best to achieve the goal. For example: best is to create an informational web site with the effect that users will come back and visit your site again. Also to offer variety, entertainment and action is one good way to go. Users want to be engaged and informed. Google AdWords is a tool, web site owners can use on the side but it is not recommended as the main focus and only channel for online marketing. To manage a successful Google Adwords campaign our team will create different landing pages, from which users will enter the web site, after having clicked on the ad in Google's AdWords boxes. This will certainly help to measure the success-rate of the advertisement campaign the client is running at Google. Using Google Analytics as the only information of the campaigns effect can create a distorted and incorrect picture of what really is taking place. The Urchin software, that is used by Google for their Analytics program, is stripped of many features, the output is delayed and as in forums of webmasters widely discussed full of flaws. Most well known draw-back is the slowing down of the web site, because the JavaScript offered by Google is connecting each time to the Google Server. Well, it is for free, so no claims can be made. So when you have performance problems check also this fact. The landing pages are monitored by SEO WATCH and traffic is measured with a professional analytics tool and this will deliver either a positive or a negative result of the running campaign but the result will be correct at least and this is most important. This provides our customers with real control! The strategies we use depend very much on the budget and in which industry the client is operating and how strong and active the competition is. Please notice that SEO WATCH only offers professional search engine optimization services.

The Meta Tag Question

Http://Yaaryaar.blogspot.com Http://MusicDon.blogspot.com

The Meta Tag Question
What is the deal with Meta Tags?
Search Engine Optimizers often have two different views when it comes to meta tags. One this is unanimous meta tags have definitely been devalued for use in most major search engines but you will find they are still being used as the description often times when your site is listed in the search results.
Meta tags were started back in the early 90's when the Internet was just getting its brand new legs and they were used to help the search engines organize the growing number of web pages. This was an easy way to get your site indexed and listed high.
Soon after unethical webmasters started to abuse the meta tag by either spamming the page full of keywords or sometimes even made different websites appear in the results for a completely different keyword. Gambling sites would stuff their meta tags with more commonly used phrases in order to bring their sites to the first page and trick the search engine and moreover the user.
Now obviously, most search engines have discontinued the use of meta tags for organizing their search results. Algorithms have become much more technologically advanced and they use a number of other methods for indexing and sorting. The big question is if they are no longer viewed as a helpful tag, why do some SEO's still use them?
Meta tags come in a multitude of different names and uses, so which ones do you use? There are four that I often find myself using when I am optimizing a site. They are as follows:
Meta Robots:This tag is still widely supported and it simply tells the search bots to either follow the URL through or you can ask them not to index certain parts of your site for aspects that may not be relevant to your actual site.
Meta Description:My favorite tag. This is your first impression, if you don't have this tag search engines will just tag clips of your index page including the keyword that was being searched for by the surfer. First impressions often is the difference between a sale or no sale.
Meta Keywords:A controversial meta tag, some use it, some don't. I still thinks it holds a bit of value if you keep it simple. Don't add more than 20 or so keywords, as I think it does increase your on-page keyword density.
Meta Content Type:This is recommended because you may find that if you do not have this tag it could cause display problems.
Now, most search engines don't use the meta tags as they did in the early nineties, but as I explained you can still use them for a variety of other reasons. There is of course a number of opinions on this matter: Some SEO firms are strong believers in the meta tag and other firms are strongly against it.
In conclusion, my opinion is that meta tags can be used for a number of alternative reasons and still offer you a great place to sell your stuff.
I always will recommend the use of at least a small number of Meta Tags, and if used correctly they will greatly improve your chances of more sales and higher rankings.

All Search Engines Love Spiders: How Meta Commands Can Help You Love Them Too

Http://Yaaryaar.blogspot.com Http://MusicDon.blogspot.com
Nearly all search engines utilize spiders (which are also known by their original name, robots) to go out and scour the web looking for web pages. These search engine spiders then bring the data back to be indexed by the engine. Since roughly 1996, individual meta commands have existed that can be used on individual web pages to modify how these search engine spiders behave. The most useful of these commands are fairly universal and respected by almost all search engines. What follows is a list of some of the more popular spider commands and instances in which you might want to use them. < name="robots" content="index">
This meta command is one of the most common ones used – and it is also the least necessary. It tells search engine spiders to come on in and put the page in their index. However, all search engines do this by default anyway. Basically, if you want to put it in there for fun, be my guest, but this command is not giving you any special treatment. All search engines are going to index your page, unless you specifically tell them otherwise.< name="robots" content="follow">The follow command is different from the index command. It basically requests that the search engine spiders follow the links that are on a particular page. Again, however, this piece of code is completely unnecessary because all search engines are going to follow the links on a page, unless otherwise directed.< name="robots" content="noindex">The noindex command, the opposite of the index command, tells search engine spiders not to index the content of a page. It's important to note however that search engine spiders will still follow the links on a page that uses only this command.When not used for legitimate purposes, this tag can be dangerous because it can put you at risk for penalization by most, if not all search engines. This is because you can use a noindex tag to hide pages with multiple links that you don't want visitors to see but that you do want all search engines to index.There are however some legitimate uses for the noindex command. For example, if you have a dynamic site and you've created static pages to replace some of your dynamic pages, which can make them easier for search engine spiders to access, you could put a noindex tag on the dynamic version.

For example, if you have a dynamic site and you've created static pages to replace some of your dynamic pages, which can make them easier for search engine spiders to access, you could put a noindex tag on the dynamic version.
As Google mentions in its Webmaster Help Center:"Consider creating static copies of dynamic pages. Although the Google index includes dynamic pages, they comprise a small portion of our index. If you suspect that your dynamically generated pages (such as URLs containing question marks) are causing problems for our crawler, you might create static copies of these pages." In cases like these, it is acceptable to use the "no index" command on the dynamic version of the page, so that your content will not be treated as duplicate. You are not tricking all search engines, you're just redirecting them. < name="robots" content="nofollow">This tag tells search engine spiders that it's OK to go ahead and index a page and list it but that they shouldn't follow any of the links that are on the page. This can be useful if, for example, you had some partners that requested a link on your site that you felt obligated to give, but you wanted to hold onto as much Page Rank as possible. Now this is of course between you and your personal god, but you would be able to in effect have a partners page, add the nofollow attribute to the meta tags, and basically not pass on any of your Page Rank to any of the sites to which you are linking. The nofollow command in effect tells all search engines that this is the end of the line. < name="robots" content="noindex,nofollow">Obviously, noindex and nofollow are powerful tags – and in combination, they can make a page and the subsequent pages to which it links invisible to nearly all search engines. This combination command tells search engine spiders, "Do not read this page; do not follow any of the links on this page; do not include this page in your index."
This command has its beneficial uses. For example, it can be placed on pages on a site that have duplicate content for legitimate reasons. A website might have both a page for the United States and a page for England that cover the same product with exactly the same content. However, nearly all search engines would see this as duplicate content and could devalue both pages. So placing this command on one of them means that search engine spiders will walk on by and you won't be penalized. < name="robots" content="noarchive">Finally, almost all search engines today, including Google and Yahoo, provide a cached version of a site alongside its listing that provides a snapshot of what the page used to look like. The noarchive tag, therefore, is available to be used in circumstances where there is content on your website that is of a timely nature and therefore that you might not necessarily want search engine spiders to cache for people to have access to moving forward. For example, a business might run a one-time special that has a ridiculously low price to drum up some business while things are slow. The business will want to be able to shut that sale down as soon as sales are back up to a solid level. However, it is conceivable that someone could click on the cached version of the business's site, see the old deal that was out there, and insist on getting it for themselves. By using the noarchive tag, you are telling search engine spiders, in effect, "This page is subject to frequent changes, and I don't want my visitors to have access to some of this content at a later time."

The Secret Sauce of Google Success

Http://Yaaryaar.blogspot.com Http://MusicDon.blogspot.com
What do you need to get top rankings on Google? There are many ingredients in the mix, but here are three of the most important that you need to concentrate on.
1.) Keyword Relevant Copy and Content.
Whatever the keywords you want to get ranked in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs), be sure that you have enough copy and content about those specific words which will give Google a reason to rank you in the first place.
If for example, one of your priority keywords is "virtual assistant software", create a separate page or section for this keyword (at least a few paragraphs) using the keyword in the headline, the first sentence, the last sentence as well as wherever it makes logical sense in order to achieve the keyword frequency and "density" that search engines are looking for. Ideally, each page will only have one or two keywords and will be very focused on that specific topic.Additionally, by including on this specific keyword page either articles, pdf files or news items about your keyword, it will help you improve your chances of a better ranking. Give Google a reason to rank you at the top. He with the most relevant copy wins - so make it rich and deep.
2.) Can the Search Engines Read and "Crawl"
All the Pages and Content on Your Site?Probably the biggest surprise to most marketers is that the search engines are unable to either navigate or read most of the content on their website. If they can't read your copy, then it's not surprising that you're not getting the rankings or traffic to your website that you aspire to.The only thing a search engine can read is words. Sites that are dynamic, or created in other formats such as Flash or Java often can't be read by the search engines. Even if they can read the content on your site, many times they can't navigate it properly or just bounce "off the walls" as there are no specific links or site map to tell the proper sequence or where to go next.
Want to see what Google is indexing on your website? Go to Google and type in: site:www.yourdomain.com . This will show you the title and description of the pages of your site they know about. If they are all the same or they don't have a title or description listed, chances are very good that your site is invisible to your target market.
3) Links... Why Are They So Important?
Link popularity is one of the most important factors search engines use in determining where you will rank in the search engine for your keywords and phrases, as it helps them to determine how important or popular your site is and what it's reputation is. In essence the search engines are saying "we're going to give top ranking to pages that have important and relevant sites linking to them".Link Building is the process of finding related/relevant websites and receiving a link from them to you. Natural linking occurs when a site has good content that others will link to. But to get these links people have to know about you. It is a catch 22. Building links has gotten sophisticated in the last couple of years. Today you need a mixture of links from many sources including articles, press releases, social bookmarks, directories and social media sites.How many links do you need to have? It depends on the individual keyword or phrase you want to be found under and how the links are structured. The search engines look at inbound links as a popularity contest but more importantly, they are looking at the quality of the pages that are linking to you and the "anchor text" - the "clickable link" and what it says about the page that it links to. The key to linking is to have the right anchor text on a link that points to a page that has content using the same keyword phrase.
You do not want to boost the overall number of links by more than 10-15% each month for an established site with history because this may trigger a filter from the search engines as an indicator of artificially inflated link popularity. New sites have an advantage since there has not been a history established and the link building can be done at a faster rate. Linking is critical not only with your search engine placement, but also because it helps stabilize you positions in the search engines and delivers traffic directly from the sites that link to you. But linking is not a once and you are done process. Generating new links is an ongoing process.In summary, successfully implementing the above 3 strategies either through your efforts or through employing search engine promotion specialists will deliver the "triple punch" and the knockout punch you need to get top rankings on Google and the other search engines as well

Is Top Search EngineResult Page Ranking Enough?

Is Top Search EngineResult Page Ranking Enough?

You've worked hard at SEO. Your site has been creeping up page by page and you finally get your site on the first page of Google for your targeted keyword phrase. But you're disappointed with the sparse amount of traffíc you're receiving.... What should you do now?
Here are some terms you must know to talk about search engine placement:

SEO = Search Engine Optimization is the science and art of getting a web page to rank well in the SERPs for a particular Keyword.

SERP = Search Engine Results Pages are the pages that a search engine returns when someone searches for something. You want your web page to be at the top of the results vs. on the 100th page. If not, no one will ever find you.

Keyword = the words or phrase that you want your site to rank well for when people search for something. For example, if you're selling brick zippers, then your keyword phrase would probably be brick zippers

Search Engine Positioning for the Weary

Do you want to get your site from page five to page one in Google? Here are a few tips to boost you on your way.

1. Clean Up Your HTML.
Keep a beady eye on Dreamweaver and avoid CMS software.
What, Dreamweaver, beloved program of pro webmasters everywhere?
Dreamweaver adds lots of extra blank space to HTML code, and breaks lines. This is especially irritating in meta tags. Use EditPad's 'Find and Replace' function to get rid of newlines and double blank spaces in your pages.
Content Management Systems are a great time saver. An amateur can set up a professional-looking site in a few hours. The problem is they contain lots of code that's irrelevant to search engines. The top of a CMS page may contain only a few words relevant to its subject matter.
Then there's the duplicate content problem.
Blogs have duplicate copies of their own content; sometimes exact, sometimes excerpts.
Thousands of people are using the same CMS as you.
A search engine spider sees the same header, sidebar and footer content in every page in your site.
Result? Your page is down the SERPs for any competitive keyword. Assuming it's indexed at all.
These programs are written by geeks. Their primary aim is to eliminate code errors and add features. Your marketing comes a very poor second. They're also posting security updates every few months. More hassle. For you.
Drastic solution:
1. Type your documents in a text editor like Editpad, then2. Use a Text to HTML converter, then3. (Use Dreamweaver to add formatting, then)4. Use a index generator to make a HTML list of those pages, then5. FTP them to your web site.
Benefits:
Search engine spiders get to the 'meat' of your page immediately;
You have more control over how the page looks;
You have more control over what an SE 'bot 'sees';
You're not relying on a MySQL database to maintain your site;
Hackers won't be able to deface your site easily.
A clever webmaster would look into Conditional Server Side Includes. You can use them to 'program' your web pages, while still presenting clean HTML to search engine 'bots.
And as for Microsoft FrontPage, I wish all my competitors were using it.
2. Get Lots of Links to Your Site.
Submit articles to article websites;
Pay freelancers to make software for you, and give it away free;
Submit to the top directories, like Yahoo and DMOZ, but don't spend much time or monëy. Only half a dozen are worth a damn for SEO;
Post in popular forums and blogs, if they will let you use straight hyperlinks in your signature;
Be controversial - assault a few sacred cows;
Do a press release, and think beforehand about how you can make it interesting to journalists;
Make a better, faster, cheaper version of a popular product.
3. Offer Something People Really Want.
People want monëy, sëx, friendship, human contact, cars, drugs, health and happiness. They know what they want (not need, want). You've got to figure out a better way to satisfy that want, for a fat net profit.
Save time. Pick a very profitable, popular industry. Think up a way to give people a better product. Or faster. Or cheaper. Or all three! Research costs little. Thinking costs nothing.

4. Be First With a New, Popular Good (or a smarter second).
MySpace wasn't the first social networking site, but they did it better. They designed it to be viral. Members could compete to get 'friends', and everyone wants new friends, right? Users could put anything they wanted online, even if it looked cr*ppy. Censorship was minimal. Result: Huge popularity, without needing the search engines.
Not easily done, but again, research costs little. Thinking costs nothing.
